Strengthening community early warning systems, preparedness and response mechanisms in Sierra Leone. Integrated disaster risk reduction (DRR) interventions were undertaken in target communities to address vulnerability relating to epidemics, including viral haemorrhagic fevers, cholera and measles, as well as other disasters. Disaster risk reduction education undertaken in eight target schools in four districts. Twenty-five volunteers were trained in concepts of disaster risk reduction in each of the four target district branches and carried out community sensitization on prevailing risks. As a result, 4,339 people were sensitised in schools and communities. A total of eighty community representatives in the four districts were trained in disaster risk reduction early warning systems. Tools and equipment were distributed to communities in the four districts for carrying out community mobilized disaster risk reduction activities.
